Dear Sherry Smith & Berkeley Albany Emeryville League,
I am so grateful for all your cards and flowers &
rather stunned by the Certificate of Appreciation put together by Jo Ann
Price & Gail Schickele. I believe it is traditional to turn such
resources back to the League & hope some will feel like doing so. I
joined LWV because the organization acting together has an ability to frame
public policy issues that no individual has. The sharing of
information by well informed people with long range good public policy focus
has been sustaining as the political pendulum swings towards the shadows.
Lately I have been wishing for a simple ballot for
national office arranged and countable the same all over the
country...perhaps mailed like Oregon's. If they can do it in
Afghanistan ...
And I think there is a clear
regional public interest in having MTC review transit hubs & extensions so
that they function well (tying the services together artfully) and serve
enough citizens within walking distance to get the benefits the expenditures
require. This land use and design review BCDC does & has saved the
filling cluttering of the Bay front. Similarly there is a public
regional interest in Urban Limit Lines tying together county efforts and
completing the Bay trail and streamy connectors. This is such a
beautiful place if you can stay off of blocked freeways. I have been
enjoying a drive to the Berkeley Albany waterfront, to the Presidio, Mt. Tam
& Pt. Reyes ...
I appreciate all of the efforts
of the League to make our government accountable and only wish that America
could see more of planning as part of responsible government for
sustainability & aesthetic cohesion of communities.
Thanks again & all the best as you go forward.
