At our annual meeting on May 17, 2006, the members of LWVBAE adopted our position on Civics Education.  It was the outcome of our two year study into how Civics is taught in Berkeley, Albany and Emeryville.  Those interested in knowing what we learned are invited to read our study report (an Acrobat PDF file).

This section of our web site is designed for those teachers, students, parents, and interested citizens wanting to learn more about how Civics is taught, and how that instruction might be improved.  To explore it, click on the links (the underlined grey words and phrases) in the red bar beneath the banner at the top of this window.

Since filing our report in 2006, our Civics Education Action Committee has sponsored:

• a mock election at Albany High in conjunction with the November 2006 Gubernatorial election
• a Why Vote? contest in the public high schools of our three cities
• a mock presidential primary at Berkeley High in conjunction with the Feb. 5, 2008 CA Presidential Primary election
