Women Veterans Recognition Day commemorates the signing of the Women’s Armed Services Integration Act that was signed into law on June 12, 1948. The law allows women the right to permanently serve in the US Armed Services. While women have been fighting for our country since the American Revolution, their contributions had been largely unrecognized until the 1970s. Awards at this event will be presented to women veterans in Alameda County to honor their achievements and service.
