District 1 Councilwoman Rashi Kesarwani, District 2 Councilmember Terry Taplin and Berkeley’s Planning staff will be co-hosting a Community Meeting on Middle Housing Thurs., Oct. 24 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Berkeley Adult School (1701 San Pablo Ave.).
“Missing Middle Housing” describes housing options that are more than a single-family home but much less than the large apartment buildings we find in downtown Berkeley, It is referred to as “missing” because it is not typically allowed by a city’s zoning code.
The Middle Housing Zoning Ordinance, which has been developed over a multiyear process, would allow more housing options to help expand the much needed housing supply. Join the Community Meeting this Thurs., Oct. 24 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Berkeley Adult School (1701 San Pablo Ave.).
On another housing note, the city has received a Grant from the State to help lease the Howard Johnson Motel (1512 University Ave.), which will be offered to individuals at the Cedar and Second Street encampment prior to closure.
