The LWVBAE Prop 13 Reform Team presentations will follow a lively and informal question-and-answer format with teams of speakers spending about 10 – 15 minutes on each of several topics, after which the audience will be invited to respond. We hope this relaxed format appeals to diverse groups of senior citizens, church members, college students, neighborhood residents, concerned voters – anyone concerned about the dire shortage of tax revenues for state and local governments in California.
The Civics Ed/Prop. 13 Reform Team has a resource bank of articles to bring prospective speakers up to speed on:
1) the history of Prop. 13,
2) unintended consequences of Prop. 13,
3) how Prop. 13 can be amended to close unfair loopholes in the commercial property tax while keeping provisions for residential property taxation unchanged and
4) what Alameda County’s share of the $9 billion from commercial property tax reform can do for our community.
For training sessions for Speakers’ Bureau presenters on how-to tips and other topics of interest for this important undertaking, check the LWVBAE Calendar See you there!
