Every other Thursday stating March 10th at 6:30. Link
Ever wonder why we haven’t made more progress improving our education and healthcare systems, or our society’s approach to climate change? The Diversity Equity & Inclusion (DEI) Team of LWVBAE would like to invite you to join us for this conversation, as we read The Sum of Us: What Racism Costs Everyone and How We Can Prosper Together by Heather McGhee.
To join us as we discuss The New York Times bestseller, pick up a copy or purchase one electronically on your preferred platform. The team will meet to discuss the first four chapters, 6:30-8PM on March 10th.
Please see our League’s calendar to find out when the Team meets every two weeks and for the Zoom link. We will discuss the book, and issues of equity and inclusion in our organization, communities and larger society.
Background on DEI Team
The DEI Team started as a task force to address the lack of diversity in the League of Women Voters of Berkeley, Albany, Emeryville (LWVBAE) and make our organization more equitable and inclusive. The task force’s initial goal was to hire a DEI consultant and implement their recommendations. From 2019-2020, the task force hired Healing Equity United to first conduct surveys and a focus group and then make a list of recommendations. Throughout the process, the task force realized that in order to be truly committed to DEI, our League needed a permanent DEI team.
Our goals now are to continue working in our League as we practice using a DEI lens when analyzing our organizational culture; when we evaluate and recommend public policies; and in building a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive organization overall. As we grow as a team and co-create our scope of work with League leaders, we invite you to join us in this work. Please email kandea@lwvbae.org if you are interested in being a part of the team.
