Robert Cheasty

Robert Cheasty, is the former President and a founding member of Citizens for East Shore Parks (CESP).
A 25 year effort by CESP yielded the McLaughlin Eastshore State Park in December 2002.
Robert will discuss with us the history of Point Molate and the current issues with this land owned by the City of Richmond.

Point Molate is a city owned park in Richmond. It is adjacent to  the present day ghost town of Winehaven. The East Bay park district has planned to include the park in-general as part of a new park in its long term projects. Some in the city of Richmond want part of it developed as housing to contribute to Richmond’s tax base. This park is accessible only via a narrow road from the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge toll plaza exit “Western Drive”.

Cheasty has for approximately the past ten years served as President of the Bay Dredging Action Coalition, an organization dedicated to ecologically sound and efficient dredging solutions in San Francisco Bay. He has also served as Mayor of Albany and held numerous public positions in Albany. He was president of the Solano Avenue Association from 1989-91, which produces the annual Solano stroll, hosting 300,000 people per year. In addition to serving as Executive Director for CESP and his community activism, he also heads a Berkeley law firm specializing in civil litigation.
