URGE GOVERNOR NEWSOM TO SIGN THE CVRA OF 2026
Democracy is under attack. From the recent U.S. Supreme Court Callais decision that severely weakened federal protections against racial vote dilution, to federal efforts to dismantle the landmark Voting Rights Act (VRA), to existing voting discrimination against certain communities in California, voting rights are facing a pivotal moment.
The California Voting Rights Act (CVRA) of 2026, authored by Senator Cervantes, is our opportunity to fight back, to protect all voters, and to strengthen democracy.
- SB 1164 responds directly to the federal attacks on our voting rights by preventing voting discrimination, promoting fair participation, and expanding opportunities for all communities to have a meaningful ability to elect candidates of choice.
Our work doesn’t end there.
- SB 1360 would enshrine in-language voting materials requirements of the federal VRA into California law. This is essential to protecting millions of limited-English voters as voting rights continue to be threatened.
In these unprecedented times when democracy is threatened, LWVC responds. We have an opportunity to ensure that California continues to lead the fight on protecting the right to vote, preventing voter discrimination and intimidation, and expanding language access protections.
Help us get the CVRA of 2026 across the finish line. Help us build a more fair and inclusive democracy.
Ask Governor Newsom to SIGN SB 1164 and SB 1360, the CVRA of 2026 Now!
